The development of our Company also represents the development of Pljevlja and Montenegro. Cooperation with the local government and the wider community is most effectively achieved through support to institutions and organizations that take care of environmental protection, culture, sports, youth, and public health.
As a Company, we are a leader in donations, striving—based on our Rulebook on Donations—to support everyone who has a good idea that will improve the quality of life in the local community.
Environmental Protection
Pljevlja Coal Mine JSC will become a modern energy source, whose development plans and activities will be aligned with the principles of sustainable development and environmental protection standards. In all organizational units, the management of natural resources will be optimized to ensure environmental acceptability.
The Mine will responsibly and continuously undertake organizational and technical measures for systematic management and improvement of environmental aspects and, in line with techno-economic capabilities, will continuously monitor environmental impacts, reducing negative effects through preventive and corrective measures. In order to achieve business and environmental results, the priorities are directed towards:
- selecting the best available techniques and technologies, and environmentally suitable materials,
- modernization of the mine,
- safe and controlled exploitation of high-quality coal,
- reclamation of abandoned surface mines, and similar activities.
Development programs and planned activities will be harmonized with regulations and standards for environmental and natural resource protection, as well as with the preservation of their quality. Monitoring and implementation of national and international legislation, and the application of safe models and methods for improving environmental standards, will be constant activities until the ultimate goal is achieved – sustainable development of all operations.
For the realization of the environmental policy, training, professional development, and consultations of employees will be carried out. Modern monitoring and IT systems will be established, along with external communication with executive authorities, international organizations, and civil associations in the field of environmental protection, as well as the wider public. Business discipline and supervision will ensure individual and functional responsibility in the implementation of environmental policy, as well as objective and transparent reporting on environmental protection.
Energy Efficiency
Energy efficiency is one of the most important issues of modern times, both in terms of energy production and energy use. Increasing energy efficiency contributes to reducing the emission of gases into the atmosphere (primarily CO2), making more efficient production and more rational energy consumption key measures in the fight against global warming and climate change.
All of these reasons guide the Coal Mine, as a modern and socially responsible company, towards continuous improvement of energy efficiency across all its business processes, which is also one of the Company’s strategic commitments.
In order to achieve its set goals in the field of energy efficiency, Pljevlja Coal Mine JSC follows and implements its own Energy Efficiency Policy, as part of the integral activities within the Energy Efficiency Management System that is currently being established in the Company.
